Fading Memories
A Piece of History and Reality:
DongGuan Street is the oldest area of Dalian (A beautiful beach city in China). It is about the same age of Dalian, 100 Years old.
The first several buildings were built by Chinese at the beginning. Then, Russian came, built some Russian style buildings. Later, Japanese came, and built a commercial street around it. It was on of the most popular area in town. Many people lived here. Including government officers, workers, Artisans, Prostitute, etc.
Decades Later, the buildings fall into disrepair and the environment is bad. It became a forgotten please. Most of the people who live in here (90%) are came from other city. For them, area is the first place they lived in this city because of the low price rent.
With the rapid development of the city, lots of old and historical buildings are demolished to build new apartments and communities. These old buildings in the area would be demolished a long time ago, if it is not because of the low budget issue. The local people also think it is a good idea to demolish the buildings, because they can get relatively large compensation.
When the authority and the Real estate company have the money, this area will be gone, just like the other areas. When that happens, this piece of history will be gone with it.
This Project:
This project means to preserve something before it is too late. It shows how people live here, and what is going on in this place. It maybe looks like usual daily life to most of people, even the people who are from this area. But it is worth to preserve...
